Denied Boarding? Get compensation

Turkish regulation on Air Passenger rights defines rights for passengers in cases of:
- Denied boarding
- Cancelled
- Delayed flights
On flights operated by air transport operators of Turkish origin from/to the Turkish airports and by air transport operators of foreign origin from Turkish airports.

When the flight is overbooked, the airline will try to find volunteers to give up their seats in return for certain benefits. If a passenger is involuntarily denied boarding, they have the right to:
- Compensation
- Reimbursement of the ticket price or its unused part or route change at the earliest or later date
- Assistance
For flight cancellations under Turkish legislation, passengers have the choice of:
- Reimbursement of the ticket price
- route change at the earliest date
- Route change at a later date
The passengers are also eligible for compensation if the cancellation reason is not force majeur and if they were not informed of the cancellation:
1) at least 2 weeks before the planned departure time
2) 2 weeks to seven days before the planned departure time, and not offered a route change which allows them to depart maximum 2 hours earlier and to arrive in maximum 4 hours later than original schedule
3) they were not informed of the cancellation at most seven days before the planned departure time and were not offered a route change which allows the passengers to depart a maximum of 1 hour earlier and to arrive in maximum 2 hours later than the original schedule.
For flight delays:
- 2 or more hours for international flights shorter than 1500 kilometers and for domestic flights
- 3 or more hours for international flights between 1500 and 3500 kilometers
- 4 or more hours for international flights longer than 3500 kilometers
the airline must provide assistance to passengers. If the delay exceeds 5 hours, the passenger has a right to reimbursement or a route change.
The compensation amount, in Turkish Lira equivalent, is as follows:
- 100 Euros for domestic flights
- 250 Euros for international flights up to 1,500 kilometers
- 400 Euros for international flights between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers
- 600 Euros for international flights longer than 3,500 kilometers
When a passenger is entitled to assistance from the airline, it should include:
- 2 telephone calls, fax messages, or e-mails
- drinks and meals:
- beverages for the delays between 2 and 3 hours
- beverages plus a breakfast or lunch depending on the time of the day for the delays between 3 and 5 hours
- additional beverages and a snack for the delays of 5 hours and more
- hotel accommodation in case of an overnight delay
- transportation between the airport and the hotel
